Cumbe: Center for African and Diaspora Dance is the home for African and diaspora dance in Brooklyn, bringing together classes and cultural education for dances from Africa, the Americas and the Caribbean. At Cumbe, young people, adults and families immerse themselves in the joy and vitality of music and dance from Africa, the Americas and Caribbean. Through dance and music, Cumbe creates a community that celebrates exuberance, sensuality, power, and laughter!

From 2014-2016, Cumbe: Center for African and Diaspora Dance engaged PURPOSE Productions in various marketing consultations, most notably the communications strategy development and implementation support for their transition out of their downtown Brooklyn home. After redesigning Cumbe’s website in 2016, PURPOSE was invited to manage the organization’s marketing and communications department in preparation for their move into a new permanent home space. Departmental activities managed throughout 2017 included
  • Budget, Timeline, and Team Management,
  • E-mail Marketing,
  • Social Media Strategy,
  • Website Management,
  • Graphic Design,
  • Digital and Print Advertising,
  • Street Team Coordination,
  • and Organizational Partnership and Cross-Promotion Communications.
PURPOSE also guided Cumbe in implementing departmental actions from their newly completed strategic plan such as the development of tracking systems for budget, timelines, communications, and cross-departmental collaboration and the creation of an institutional Style Guide and design templates. In 2018, PURPOSE managed the hiring and training of a new Director of Communications to carry this work and the organization forward.
